WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Derek Norris will swap threads next season after being traded. The San Diego Padres traded the catcher Friday for right-handed pitcher Pedro Avila.

The Nationals drafted Norris in the fourth round of the 2007 amateur draft. He was later part of a 2011 trade to the Oakland Athletics, which included Gio Gonzalez. Norris was traded again in 2014, when the Athletics shipped him to the Padres.
