Washington Nationals All-Star catcher Wilson Ramos suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the rest of the season, manager Dusty Baker announced Tuesday.

Ramos suffered the injury on Monday, two days after the Nationals clinched the National League East title.

The injury occurred in the top of the sixth inning, shortly after the resumption of play following a 20-minute rain delay. With Arizona Diamondbacks' runners on first and second and one out, Arizona's Yasmany Tomas hit a two-run double to right. As Brandon Drury scored the second run, Ramos tried to catch the ball on the relay and fell awkwardly on the first base side of the plate.

Ramos recently turned down a contract offer from the Nationals and appears headed to the free-agent market.

Ramos, 29, was having a career year and was named to the All-Star team for the first time. He is hitting .307 with 22 home runs and 80 RBIs, all personal bests.

The loss of Ramos is major blow to the Nationals' hopes of advancing through the playoffs.

Without Ramos, Washington will probably use veteran Jose Lobaton and rookie Pedro Severino behind the plate. Lobaton is batting .220 with three homers in 35 games this season, while Severino is hitting .350 with one homer in just 25 plate appearances for the Nationals this year.

The Nationals also called up catcher Spencer Kieboom from Double-A Harrisburg.

Ramos' injury is the latest in a series of health problems for the Nationals.

Pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been out since early September with a strained flexor mass, second baseman Daniel Murphy has missed five games with a strained buttocks muscle, and outfielder Bryce Harper missed Monday's game with a thumb injury.

Murphy and Harper should return for the postseason, but there is no timetable for Strasburg's return.
