Cincinnati Reds' Billy Hamilton sets record for fastest home run trot

By Alex Butler

CHICAGO, April 12 (UPI) -- Billy Hamilton did his best impression of 'Forest Gump' Monday in the Cincinnati Reds' loss to the Chicago Cubs.

After smacking a solo home run, Hamilton ran around the bases in 16.2 seconds, topping out at 20.1 mph. The jaunt is the fastest since 2014, when MLB began tracking the statistic. It is also just a few seconds slower than Dee Gordon's inside the park home run last season, which was the fastest in baseball history.

"I didn't know it was a home run," Hamilton told MLB.com. "My motto is, 'If that ball falls, I'm trying to get an inside the park home run.' I'm going full speed all the time."

The Reds took Hamilton, 25, in the second round of the 2009 amateur draft. Last season, Hamilton stole 57 bases and hit .226 for the Reds. Hamilton had 126 stolen bases in the first three seasons of his career.

Hamilton is 3-for-17, with a home run, two RBI, and one stolen base so far this season.
