Toronto Blue Jays' Donaldson breaks All-Star voting record

CINCINNATI, July 6 (UPI) -- Now a two-time All-Star, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson heads into the mid-summer classic with a little weight on his shoulders.

Donaldson broke the record for All-Star votes with 14,090,188 this year and will start for the American League July 14 in Cincinnati.

"I feel honored to represent the AL All Star team!! Thank you to all the fans who voted! #blessed #teammatesarestuds #truenorth," Donaldson tweeted.

Donaldson, 29, has 19 home runs, 56 RBI, 62 runs scores, and a .296 batting average in 83 games.

A record 620 million votes were cast, according to Yahoo Sports.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout garnered the second most votes with 14,013,021.

Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper was the only player in the National Leageu to surpass 10 million votes, totaling 13,864,950.
