Fans create GoFundMe for Alex Rodriguez

NEW YORK, April 28 (UPI) -- What do you get a man who will have earned at least $375,416,252 at the end of this baseball season? A GoFundMe fundraising account, apparently.

Alex Rodriguez fans have started to raise money for a creative cause. "The Yankees have failed to acknowledge A-Rod's 660th HR in an appropriate way,"the cause description reads. "This account will raise the money needed to place an ad from the fans congratulating A-Rod in the Daily News."

Fans have raised $407 of a $6,600 goal for the slugger. Rodriguez is currently No. 5 all-time in career home runs. His 659 home runs rank just one behind Willie Mays' 660. Babe Ruth is No. 3 all-time with 714 home runs.

On Sunday, another fan took out a full page ad in the Daily News, asking for commissioner Rob Manfred to put an asterisk next to Rodriguez's 660th home run.

Rodriguez has five home runs, 13 RBI and is hitting .267 in 60 at-bats this season.

"Willie was my father's favorite player," A-Rod said after the game.recently told the New York Post. "... He's one of my heroes. I'm excited about the win today, the home run and I'm having fun."

The Yankees host the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday and Wednesday, before traveling Friday to face the Boston Red Sox.
