Washington Nationals sign Tony Gwynn Jr.

WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- A legendary baseball name has been invited to the Washington Nationals spring training camp. Tony Gwynn Jr. was signed to a minor league deal by the Nationals Monday, according to CSN's Mark Zuckerman.

Gwynn's elder namesake and legendary lefty Tony Gwynn, died last June.

After being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2nd round of the 2003 amateur draft, Gwynn Jr. has played with the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Philadelphia Phillies. In eight big-league season, Gwynn Jr., 32, has hit .238, with 23 home runs, 98 RBI, 80 stolen bases and 297 strikeouts.
