Jack Nicklaus doesn't know if Tiger Woods will 'play much golf anymore'

June 27 (UPI) -- The best golfer of all time says Tiger Woods currently has "more life problems" than golf problems.

Woods hasn't played since pulling out of February's Dubai Desert Classic. He has had multiple back procedures and was recently charged with a DUI in Florida.

"He'll have a very hard time," Nicklaus told USA Today. "I don't know whether Tiger will play much golf anymore," said Nicklaus, who won a record 18 major championships."

"He might come back and play — I think it'd be pretty tough for him, after getting fused, and as many problems as he's had recently...His problems are more life problems than they are golf problems right now."

Nicklaus was speaking at the Quicken Loans National, which benefits the Tiger Woods foundation.

Woods, 41, hasn't won a major tournament since the 2008 U.S. Open.

Last summer, Nicklaus told UPI that he didn't "understand what [Tiger] is struggling with."

Still, Nicklaus believed at that time that Woods had a shot at breaking his record for most major titles.

"I think he's so talented and still relatively young in relation to the game of golf, that I still think he's got a very good shot at doing it," Nicklaus said. "I've never had a situation like that. I obviously don't understand it because I haven't been in the middle of it. You don't know what's going through somebody's head when they've been injured as long as he's been injured."

Woods will not attend this week's tournament. Last week, his design firm, TGR design, joined the city of Chicago, the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Golf Alliance to unveil plans for a golf course project on the city's south side.

The 2017 Quicken Loans National starts Thursday at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm course in Potomac, Md.
