Sergio Garcia aces No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass, awards booze to press

May 12 (UPI) -- The most famous hole in golf has seen its share of highlights this week. Sergio Garcia aced No. 17 Thursday in The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Rickie Fowler hit a hole-in-one out of the tee box on Wednesday in a practice round. James Hahn's caddie even found the green on the hole by throwing a golf ball more than 100 yards to get onto the green during the Annual Caddie Competition.

But Garcia's stroke was the best yet.

He took a clean swipe at his ball off of the grass and watched it soar toward the island green at the stadium course. Garcia's ball glided over the water, took two small bounces, then dropped right inside the pin.

The 2017 Masters champion lifted his right arm in celebration and disbelief before hugging his caddie and shaking hands. His ace was the eight ever official hole-in-one on the most famous hole in golf.

Garcia celebrated the ace by giving free beer and vodka to the media.

"Salud!! Cheers," Garcia wrote on a note in the clubhouse. "Michelob Ultra and Grey Goose complements on Sergio Garcia. Hoyo en uno!!"

Fellow Spaniard Jon Rahm's -6 currently leads the tournament. Garcia is tied at No. 34 with a -1.
