Pro golfer tees off on United Airlines for club damage

April 26 (UPI) -- Australian golfer Mat Goggin is not happy that his golf clubs broke during his recent United Airlines flight and he's letting the company know about it.

Goggin criticized the airline Monday on Twitter.

"First time in 20+ years I've opened my bag to find this ... I was going to complain but I must admit I'm a little intimidated by @united," Goggin wrote in his post.

His "intimidation" regarding the airline could be a dig at its handling of the David Dao situation.

A video released earlier this month showed armed security officers dragging a bloodied Dao off a flight from Chicago to Louisville in order to make room for a flight crew. Dao's lawyer said the move resulted in a concussion, broken nose and additional injuries to his client.

Days after the incident, United Continental Holdings shares fell by more than 2 percent (about $1 billion in market value) in early trading.

The company's CEO called the incident an "upsetting event."

Golf brand TaylorMade was quick to help out Goggin. TaylorMade responded less than 24 hours after his tweet to say: "We're on it."

Goggin, 42, ranks No. 196 on the PGA's money list for 2016 with a purse of $2,590. He has a 73.35 round scoring average and sits at No. 1,445 in the World Golf Rankings.

The Aussie last won at the 2015 Panama Claro Championship on the Web.com Tour. On the PGA Tour, Goggin has finished a tournament in second place twice, third place three times and has 17 top-10 finishes since 1998.
