Beer in the 'Shoe: Ohio State allows alcohol sales at stadium

COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 9 (UPI) -- Boisterous Buckeyes now have more to celebrate than just a successful football season.

Ohio State University announced that beer will be sold stadium wide this upcoming football season. Last year, only fans with tickets in the suite and club levels of Ohio Stadium could buy alcohol.

Revenue from the alcohol sales will be used to fund two full-time positions at the Ohio State police department, an annual cost of $300,000, according to the school athletic department's website.

"The safety of our campus community, including fans and visitors, is our number one priority," Craig Stone, chief of the OSU police division told the website. "Thanks to this partnership with the Department of Athletics, two new, full-time officers will bolster our security presence and enhance campus safety year-round."

The school also pledged to use $50,000 to research the impact of alcohol on campus events and how to prevent problems, using the school's Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse and Recovery program.
