COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- After being pulled over at 1:40 a.m. on Oct. 31 for avoiding a DUI checkpoint, Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett knew he was in trouble.

But Barrett tried to play all his cards after performing several field sobriety tests and an officer telling him he smelled alcohol on his breath. Barrett was measured at a 0.099 blood alcohol level. The legal limit for driving in Ohio is a level of 0.08.

In a police dash camera video obtained by TMZ Sports, Barrett tells the officers "I'm the quarterback of Ohio State."

He then asks: "officer there's nothing you can do?"

The officer responds: "My intention is to not take you to jail. That's about the best I can do for you."

A frustrated Barrett yells obscenities to himself in the back seat of the police cruiser, before telling the officer that teammate and fellow Buckeyes quarterback Cardale Jones will pick him up.

Barrett apologized to the football program and fans Tuesday, after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle while impaired, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The 20-year-old was fined $400 and had his driver's license suspended for 180 days by municipal court judge H. William Pollitt Jr., in a Franklin County court.

Barrett must attend a three-day driver intervention program, but will be allowed to drive to classes and football practices.

Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer suspended Barrett for the team's Nov. 7 game against Minnesota. The Buckeyes (9-0) won the game 28-14 under Jones. Meyer said that Barrett will start the Buckeyes' Nov. 14 game at Illinois.
