AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- One of the most identifiable mascots in sports wont be at its team's side this weekend.
Bevo XIV, a live longhorn, will not attend Saturday's skirmish between Texas and Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl because of a "life threatening condition," according to the Longhorn Network.
Bevo XIV has been the Texas mascot since 2004. The Longhorns mascot is being examined by veterinarians as the team prepares to take on the No, 10 Sooners.
The Longhorns are out to a dreadful 1-4 start.

"Bevo is a fighter, a symbol of strength and who fans across the world care deeply about," Ricky Brennes, the executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association, said in a statement released by school officials. "We are carefully monitoring Bevo's condition at this time and will update the public as we find out more about his condition."
According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, the team has won 25 of 26 games at which Bevo XIV has appeared. Bevo XIV appeared at President George W. Bush's inauguration and "has helped raise more than $250k for the University of Texas Neighborhood Longhorns Program, the primary charity of the Silver Spurs."
Texas officials send out statement saying that Bevo XIV's health is being examined by veterinarians.
