Cowherd has very awkward interview with Michigan's Harbaugh

By Alex Butler

BRISTOL, Conn., July 1 (UPI) -- ESPN Radio host Colin Cowherd contrived numerous questions in an effort to get Jim Harbaugh to open up Wednesday, but the new Michigan football coach wasn't in much of a talking mood.

Harbaugh joined the Herd with Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio and only responded with blunt, short answers to the veteran host's series of questions.

At one point, Cowherd tried to talk about the Big Ten conference as a "buy" with the coach, meaning that it was on the rise. Harbaugh assumed he meant a "bye" like a bye week.

"Future of the Big Ten," Cowherd said. "You're at Michigan, Urban Meyer at Ohio State, James Franklin. When I look at these coaches I say 'elite recruiters, elite coaches.' I said this yesterday. The Big Ten feels like it's a buy for me. Could you sense... do you have a sense of that and a feel for the conference overall?"

"The Big Ten feels like a buy to you," Harbaugh asked. "How does it feel that way?

"You don't see that," Cowherd asked.

"Explain that to me, I don't understand 'a buy," Harbaugh said.

"Well I mean, let's be honest. Michigan's a heavyweight," Cowherd said. ""Ohio State's a heavyweight. They now both have great coaches. It feels like the Big Ten is on the come. It feels like there's momentum in the conference."

"Oh... a buy," Harbaugh said. "Like something to buy as opposed to sell. I thought (you meant) bye week. Like a bye."

"This feels like one of those where you ask like 50 questions," Harbaugh said.

"I want Jim Harbaugh, the guy," Cowherd responded. "I'm a 4.3 wide receiver. Why should I play at Michigan?"

"What can I do to make your interview better?," Harbaugh asked.

"I'm just asking open-ended questions and you have not much to say," Cowherd responded.

After finally putting an end to the brutal interview, Cowherd fired a shot at Michigan.

"If I'm an 18-year-old kid and just heard Jim Harbaugh on my show, I'm choosing Urban Meyer and Ohio State," Cowherd said.

Harbaugh went on to tweet a Wednesday afternoon jab at Cowherd.

"In my experience of participating in interviews, I've found it takes 2 to produce a clunker! I'll take 50% responsibility 4 this clunker," Harbaugh tweeted.
