LeBron gifts Ohio State with Beats

By Alex Butler

DALLAS, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- In what has already been reported as a permissible donation, Cleveland Cavaliers star and Beats By Dre spokesman and partner LeBron James "helped facilitate the connection" between his company and the Ohio State football team Saturday, when the Buckeyes received the headphones as a gift prior to Monday's College Football Playoff National Championship.

Beats Studio headphones retail for about $300. Oregon players also were given Beats By Dre headphones Saturday. Each school is allowed to give its players $400 worth of gifts for the championship game, while the winning team can give an additional $415 worth of gifts to its players, according to ESPN. The $175 wholesale price of the headphones will be deducted from the $400 amount.

Several players took to Twitter and Instagram to thank the King.

Buckeye's running back Ezekiel Elliott tweeted that the gift was not a violation, because it was allowed by Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.

James has attended numerous Buckeyes sporting events throughout the years and followed the team, growing up two hours away, in Akron, Ohio.
