GAINESVILLE, Fla., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Colorado State coach Jim McElwain and Ole Miss's Hugh Freeze are reportedly on the short list for head coach of the University of Florida football team.

McElwain has reportedly been in talks with Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley. Yahoo News reported that he is likely the list topper. This would not be his first time working in the SEC. He was an offensive coordinator and receivers coach from 2008-2011 for Alabama's Crimson Tide.

According to the Denver Post, if Florida wants McElwain, they will have to pay a steep price. His five-year contract with CSU comes with a buyout price tag of $7.5 million.

Hugh Freeze, currently head coach of Ole Miss, is also reportedly on the short list for the job but he doesn't seem ready for a switch.

"I am blessed to be the head football coach at University of Mississippi, my home, and work for great people," he said about the Florida job. "We're going to win a championship at Mississippi State. I don't know when. We came close this year. At some point we will."
