CLEMSON, S.C., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Clemson football Coach Dabo Swinney has agreed to a new 8-year contract that will keep him at the school through 2021, the university said Saturday.

The details of the pact, which was approved by the Clemson trustees.

"Dabo is one of the top coaches not only in the ACC but in the entire nation," Athletic Director Dan Radakovich said in a written statement. "His teams have succeeded on the field, in the classroom and in the community. We're excited to have him lead our program for a long time into the future."

Swinney has a 51-23 record -- 33-12 in ACC -- in six seasons at Clemson. The Tigers have been to a bowl game in each of his seasons.

Clemson finished 11-2 this season and beat highly regarded Ohio State in the Orange Bowl 40-35.

"The future of Clemson University is extremely bright and the future of our football program is as well," Swinney said in the university statement. "While we have accomplished many goals, we still have several out there to reach and we will continue to work to get there."
