NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- An investigation of allegations a former Rutgers football player was bullied by one of the team's assistant coaches is expected to end within two weeks
A law firm hired by the university is looking into charges former first-year cornerback Jevon Tyree was verbally abused and physically threatened by former defensive coordinator Dave Cohen, nj.com reported Thursday.
The alleged mistreatment occurred during a study hall in the spring of 2013. Tyree quit the team Nov. 6. His parents criticized the way the school handled the allegations.
Cohen and two other assistants were fired Dec. 8.
The university's general counsel, John Farmer Jr., initially led the investigation, but recused himself in late November, saying he was a potential witness.
Results of the investigation will be filed with Rutgers president Robert Barchi and the university's board of governors. After reviewing the report, university officials can either release the report or ask for additional information.
