Rutgers football coach dismisses three assistants

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Rutgers football Coach Kyle Flood fired three assistants Monday, immediately after he was given a vote of confidence by the school's athletics director.

On the same day Athletics Director Julie Hermann broke her silence regarding the job security of the second-year coach, Flood fired defensive coordinator Dave Cohen, quarterbacks coach Rob Spence and offensive line coach Damian Wroblewski, the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger reported Monday.

Flood called the dismissals "the right moves for our program" and "strictly football decisions."

Special teams coordinator Joe Rossi will add the role of defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator Ron Prince will be quarterbacks coach when Rutgers plays the final game of its season Dec. 28, the Pinstripe Bowl, against Notre Dame in Yankee Stadium, the newspaper said.

Rutgers, 6-6 this season, will enter the Big Ten Conference next year.
