YPSILANTI, Mich., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Police in Michigan said they have arrested two suspects in the October slaying of Eastern Michigan University football player Demarius Reed.
Police said Reed, 20, a junior on the team, was gunned down about 7 a.m. Oct. 18 in the hallway of his off-campus apartment building in Ypsilanti in an apparent robbery. Police said Reed was alive after being shot but was left to die. He was found later that morning by roommate and teammate Julius Shelby.
Police said they arrested two suspects, Ed Jemeal Thomas, 20, of Detroit and Kristopher Kaivon Pratt, 19. Thomas was arraigned Sunday on charges of open murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, Ypsilanti interim police Chief Tony DeGiusti said. Police declined to comment on Pratt's connection to the case. He was arrested Monday, the Detroit News said.
"I have a mix of emotions right now," Reed's father, Carl, said Monday. "It brought relief that the police have been working so diligently and doing a good job to work the case, but it also brought sadness because all of those feelings have resurfaced."
