IRVING, Texas, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Two-time reigning BCS champion Alabama was rated first in the initial Bowl Championship Series rankings of 2013 released Sunday.
With a 7-0 record, the top-ranked Crimson Tide earned an overall BCS composite score of .984, well ahead second-place Florida (6-0, .935), which routed Clemson 51-14 Saturday.
The Seminoles' tougher schedule gave them an edge over No. 3 Oregon (7-0, .932), which will host UCLA next weekend.
Among the remaining unbeaten teams, Ohio State came in fourth and Missouri fifth in the first BCS poll.
They were followed by Stanford, Miami-Florida, Baylor, Clemson and Texas Tech.
This is the final season in which college football will use the BCS system to determine the national champion.
A four-team playoff will be employed starting next season.
