MADISON, Wis., Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Joel Stave hurled a trio of touchdown passes Saturday and Wisconsin came back from a two-week layoff with a 35-6 thrashing of No. 18 Northwestern.

Stave completed 17-of-28 attempts en route to 241 yards and shook off a pair of interceptions for the Badgers (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten), who were playing for the first time since a Sept. 28 loss to Ohio State.

Wisconsin unleashed a potent ground game as Melvin Gordon rambled for 172 yards with a score on 22 carries and James White picked up 101 more, including a TD, on 19 rushes.

Trevor Siemian was held to just 13-of-34 passing for 163 yards after taking over for the injured to Kain Colter at quarterback for the Wildcats (4-2, 0-2).
