COL FB: Michigan 42, Minnesota 13

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Devin Gardner passed for a touchdown and ran for another Saturday and No. 17 Michigan beat Minnesota 42-13 to take its sixth straight Little Brown Jug.

Gardner completed 13-of-17 passes for 235 yards without a turnover as Michigan (5-0, 1-0 Big Ten) overcame a slow start to improve to 22-1 in its last 23 meetings with the Golden Gophers in the Big Ten Conference rivalry.

Fitzgerald Toussaint racked up 78 yards with two scores on 17 carries while tight end Devin Funchess hauled down seven passes for 151 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines.

Minnesota (4-2, 0-2) was playing without head Coach Jerry Kill, who was sidelined with an epilepsy-related seizure for the fifth time time since taking over the program in 2011.

Kill remained in Minneapolis Saturday. Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys served as acting head coach as the Gophers fell to 24-73-3 all-time against Michigan.

Mitch Leidner made good on 14-of-21 passes with a touchdown and an interception and also ran 18 times for 67 yards for Minnesota.
