GAINESVILLE, Fla., Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel, out for the season with a fractured right fibula, underwent successful surgery Wednesday, the school announced.

A statement indicated doctors inserted a plate and screws in Driskel's fibula while also repairing knee ligaments and an ankle injury,

The Gators' junior signal-caller was hurt early in Saturday's 31-17 win over Tennessee.

Driskel, in his second season as Florida's starting quarterback, will need 4-6 months to recover, placing his status for spring football in question, Coach Will Muschamp said.

If given medical red-shirt status, he would be available to quarterback the team in 2014 and 2015.
