COL FB: Michigan 24, Connecticut 21

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Brendan Gibbons booted a 21-yard field goal with 4:36 left Saturday and No. 14 Michigan narrowly avoided an upset with a 24-21 win over Connecticut.

The Wolverines (4-0) trailed 21-7 before reeling off the game's final 17 points to eke out the victory -- their second straight close call after also nearly falling to Akron at home last week.

Fitzgerald Toussaint (121 rushing yards) ran for two late scores as Michigan survived four turnovers.

Devin Gardner could manage only 12-of-25 through the air for 99 yards with two interceptions and a lost a fumble, but also ran for 55 yards with a touchdown.

Chandler Whitmer completed 16-of-32 passes for 157 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Huskies (0-3).
