
STANFORD, Calif., Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Kevin Hogan and Ty Montgomery teamed up on two scoring strikes Saturday, sparking No. 5 Stanford to a 42-28 defeat of 23rd-ranked Arizona State.
Hogan made good on 11-of-17 passes for 151 yards with one interception and carried the ball six times for 44 yards as the Cardinal (3-0, 1-0 Pac-12) recorded a third straight win to start the season for the first time in its modern history.
Tyler Gaffney led Stanford's ground game with 87 yards and two TDs on 18 carries.
Anthony Wilkerson also rushed 18 times for Stanford, finishing with 68 yards and a touchdown.
The Sun Devils (2-1, 0-1) were led by Taylor Kelly, who amassed 368 passing yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice.
Jaelen Strong made 12 grabs for 168 yards and a score for ASU.
