COL FB: Michigan 28, Akron 24

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Fitzgerald Toussaint scored from 2 yards out in the fourth quarter Saturday and 12th-ranked Michigan escaped with a 28-24 win over visiting Akron.

The Wolverines (3-0) then needed a goal-line stand to foil a final 71-yard drive by the pesky Zips (1-2), who scored 14 points in the final quarter.

Akron quarterback Kyle Pohl threw an incomplete pass under pressure on the final play of the game and Michigan remained undefeated.

Pohl finished the day 25-for-49 for 311 yards and two touchdowns. He was intercepted twice. Justin March returned an interception for a touchdown.

Michigan's Devin Gardner completed 16-of-30 passes for 248 yards and two TDs, but he was picked off three times. Toussaint ran for 71 yards on 19 carries.

Michigan led 7-3 at halftime but outscored Akron 14-7 in the third quarter. The Zips grabbed a 24-21 lead on Pohl's 1-yard toss to Tyler Goodman with 4:10 to play.
