ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Devin Gardner hooked up with Jeremy Gallon for three touchdown passes Saturday and No. 17 Michigan handled 13th-ranked Notre Dame 41-30.

Gardner hurled four scoring passes in all, completing 21-of-33 passes for 294 yards with an interception, and also rushed for 82 yards with a score in the second-ever night game at Michigan Stadium.

Gallon finished with eight receptions for 184 yards as the Wolverines (2-0) improved to 24-16-1 all-time against the Fighting Irish in the final game of an annual rivalry series begun in 2002.

The two schools were unable to agree on extending the series due to Notre Dame's commitments as a new member of the ACC beginning next season.

Tommy Rees went 29-of-51 for 314 passing yards, two touchdowns and two pick-offs for Notre Dame (1-1).
