COL FB: Clemson 53, South Carolina State 13

CLEMSON, S.C., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Backup quarterback Cole Stoudt threw three touchdown passes Saturday in fifth-ranked Clemson's 53-13 victory over South Carolina State.

Stoudt, one of four quarterbacks Clemson deployed in the game, was given a generous amount of playing time for the Tigers (2-0), who rolled up a 38-7 lead at halftime.

Stoudt completed 19-of-20 passes for 143 yards and hit Germone Hopper for two scores and Charone Peake for another. Starter Tajh Boyd completed 14 passes for 169 yards and ran in a 1-yard TD in the first quarter to stake Clemson to a 10-0 lead.

South Carolina State (0-2) got on the board in the second quarter on a 63-yard TD bomb from Richard Cue to Tyler McDonald. McDonald caught a 51-yard heave from TeDarrius Wiley with 4:05 left in the game.
