GAINESVILLE, Fla., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Florida took on Toledo Saturday without versatile defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy, who was suspended for the game, The Gainesville (Fla.) Sun said.

The newspaper said it confirmed late Friday that Purifoy was among six Gators who were benched for unspecified violations of team rules.

Purifoy is expected to be a key player for Florida this season. The junior was named starting cornerback and also was also penciled in for roles on special teams and offense, the Sun said.

Purifoy's backup on the depth chart at corner was senior Jaylen Watkins.
