Report: Manziel fined in year-old misdemeanor complaint

BRYAN, Texas, July 15 (UPI) -- Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Johnny Manziel has pleaded guilty to a year-old misdemeanor charge, the Bryan Eagle reported Monday.

Manziel jumped into the national spotlight last season by leading Texas A&M to a road win over Alabama, which went on to capture its second straight national title.

Prior to last season he was detained by police for refusing to identify himself following an altercation outside a bar near the A&M campus.

Court records showed he spent the night in jail. The newspaper reported Manziel agreed Monday to pay a $2,000 fine and $232 in court costs.

The court appearance came one day after it was reported that Manziel had been sent home a day early by organizers of the Manning Passing Academy, where he was serving as a counselor, for missing meetings and practice sessions.
