Thompson, who was 27, was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center for treatment of stab wounds in the back, hip and arm. He died Feb. 2.

Police said Thompson was not able to identify his attacker, The Arizona Republic reported.

Police had arrested McDonald Jan. 29, two days after the attack but released him after questioning. Police said he acknowledged getting into a fight with Thompson but denied stabbing him. No one working at the nightclub saw who stabbed Thompson and investigators were unable to find the weapon at Martini Ranch, police said.
