Division 1 FCS game stays in Frisco, Texas

FRISCO, Texas, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Division I Football Championship Game will stay in Frisco, Texas, through the 2015 season, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

The three-year extension comes just ahead of the final championship game of the current contract. The Southland Conference and the Hunt Sports group will remain as co-hosts along with the city of Frisco, the NCAA said.

"The committee is excited to announce this extension," said Charlie Cobb, chairman of the Division I Football Committee and director of athletics at Appalachian State University. "The entire local community, including the Southland Conference, has really embraced and supported this event. When you combine that enthusiasm with the quality of the stadium, it makes Frisco an outstanding environment for the participating student-athletes, coaches and fans."

This season's sold-out championship game, set for Jan. 5 at FC Dallas Stadium, features a rematch of last season's championship game between North Dakota State and Sam Houston State. NDSU won the last time.
