ANN ARBOG, Mich., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Michigan starting tailback Fitzgerald Toussaint has been sentenced to probation in connection with his July arrest for drunken driving, officials say.

The Michigan football player was sentenced Tuesday to up to 10 months of probation, mandatory Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and a $1,487 fine, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Toussaint, 22, also was instructed by Chief Judge Kirk W. Tabbey to abstain from alcohol and illegal drugs. He will be subject to random drug testing for 90 days.

Toussaint pleaded guilty in August to operating a motor vehicle while visibly impaired, a misdemeanor. When he was arrested on July 21, Toussaint was charged with operating while intoxicated.

He was suspended for the first week of Michigan's preseason camp and for the Wolverines season opener against Alabama by coach Brady Hoke.
