IRVING, Texas, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Alabama was rated an overwhelming No. 1 in the first Bowl Championship Series computerized poll of the year released Sunday.
The Crimson Tide (6-0) took the top spot as they were coming off a 42-10 pounding of Missouri Saturday.
Florida, also 6-0, grabbed second place after its 31-17 victory at Vanderbilt.
The two Southeastern Conference squads are not scheduled to play each other this year, but could meet in a conference championship game.
Rounding out the Top 5 were Oregon, Kansas State and Notre Dame.
Garnering sixth place was Louisiana State, followed by South Carolina, Oregon State, Oklahoma and Southern California.
