STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Tight end Paul Jones has left the Penn State football program, Nittany Lions head Coach Bill O'Brien confirmed Wednesday.

O'Brien said the redshirt sophomore -- a converted quarterback -- left for "personal reasons."

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Jones had been switched to tight end to get more playing time after he was demoted to third-string quarterback behind true freshman Steven Bench.

He had one catch in Penn State's Sept. 17 win over Navy.
