STARKVILLE, Miss., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Tyler Russell tossed for 171 yards and scored a rushing touchdown Saturday, helping No. 23 Mississippi State roll to a 30-10 victory over South Alabama.

Russell went 13-of-27 with an interception. Brandon Heavens made three catches for 55 yards as MSU got off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1999.

LaDarius Perkins compiled 69 yards and a score on 11 carries for the Bulldogs.

C.J. Bennett managed 154 yards and a TD on 14-of-26 efficiency for the Jaguars (1-3).
