Coach's wife defends child porn charge

MANKATO, Minn., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The wife of Minnesota State football coach Todd Hoffner defended her husband, saying child pornography charges against him are baseless.

Melodee Hoffner told the Mankato Free Press the videos found on her husband's computer show the couple's three young children "being silly and having fun."

A criminal complaint describes three videos found on Hoffner's computer. One depicts the children, a boy and two girls ages 9, 8 and 5, dancing naked. A third video shows one of the couple's daughters being woken up to use the bathroom and focuses on the girl's underwear, the newspaper reported.

Melodee Hoffner, a school counselor who said she is trained in identifying signs of child abuse, said the video of her daughter going to the bathroom was taken because the girl didn't believe she would bump into walls when walking to the bathroom at night, and when told of it said she wanted to see it for herself.

"I hope someone with authority will take a new look at this and see it for what it is," she said.

Todd Hoffner has been placed on administrative leave from the MSU football team by the university pending the outcome of the case.
