Minn. St. coach arrested in porn probe

Aug. 21, 2012 at 7:49 PM

MANKATO, Minn., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Minnesota State University head football Coach Todd Hoffner was arrested as part of a child pornography investigation, police said Tuesday.

Capt. Rich Murry of the Blue Earth County, Minn., Sheriff's Department issued a statement indicating Hoffner was booked into jail Monday for requested possible charges related to use of minors in a sexual performance and possession of child pornography, The Mankato (Minn.) Free Press reported.

The sheriff's spokesman wouldn't elaborate on the requested charges, saying only: "We began investigating yesterday. Based on information from our initial investigation we executed a search warrant at his residence Monday morning."

Hoffner was escorted off the practice field of the Minnesota State Mavericks football team during practice Friday in Mankato and has been placed on administrative leave.

School officials have not said why the move was made as the fifth-year head coach was preparing the team for its Aug. 30 season opener against Minot (N.D.) State.

Minnesota State Athletic Director Kevin Buisman said offensive coordinator Aaron Keen has temporarily taken over the NCAA Division II program for now, the Free Press reported.
