PHILADELPHIA, June 5 (UPI) -- Freshman Temple University linebacker Praise Martin-Oguike has been dropped from the team following dorm room rape charges, school officials said Tuesday.
Temple spokesman Ray Betzner told the Philadelphia Daily News Martin-Oguike had been suspended from the school as well as the team "until the charges have been resolved."
The 18-year-old from Woodbridge, N.J., was charged with forcible rape, false imprisonment and related offenses May 31. After being jailed, he was released the same day after posting 10 percent of his $15,000 bail, the newspaper said.
Court records indicated Martin-Oguike was accused of raping a 21-year-old female acquaintance when she came to visit him in his on-campus dorm room.
A police affidavit stated the woman said Martin-Oguike texted her several times after the alleged incident, in which he asked, "Are you going to press charges?" the Daily News reported.
The 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker mostly played freshman football last season and was one of five freshmen to see varsity action during the 2011 season.
