Trial for Penn State's Sandusky delayed

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 30 (UPI) -- The trial of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky on a variety of child sex abuse charges has been pushed back from May 14 to June 5.

Judge John M. Cleland's order to delay the start of the trial came as prosecutors filed objections to the retired defensive coordinator's motions to dismiss charges, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Friday.

Sandusky attorney Joe Amendola filed for a delay last week, arguing the charges against his client were so vague, a defense could not be mounted.

In documents filed Thursday, prosecutors said Sandusky, charged with abusing 10 boys during a 15-year-period, gave up his right to pretrial challenges to the charges when he waived the case to court rather than challenge them in a preliminary hearing.

Cleland will hear pretrial arguments April 5.

Sandusky, 68, of College Township, is under house arrest on $250,000 bond.
