EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- John White IV burst up the middle for an 8-yard touchdown in overtime Saturday, propelling Utah to a 30-27 win over Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl.

Utah (8-5) needed to respond after the Yellow Jackets made a field goal to start the first overtime period, and did so on just six plays.

White finished with 115 yards on 26 carries. He used the performance to become Utah's all-time, single-season leading rusher with 1,519 yards.

Jon Hays completed 15-of-31 passes for 193 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for the Utes, who improved to 13-4 all-time in bowl games.

The Yellow Jackets (8-5) were led by Tevin Washington, who went 10-of-13 passes through the air for 130 yards and a touchdown.

Washington also rushed 21 times for 96 yards.
