LAWRENCE, Kan., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Former Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist said he is transferring to Kansas, joining new Jayhawks Coach Charlie Weis who coached Crist at Notre Dame.
Crist opened the 2011 season as Notre Dame's starting quarterback but ended up seeing limited action in only four games. He completed 15-of-24 passes for 164 yards.
He was also reportedly considering a move to Wisconsin but Thursday posted on his Twitter account that "After a long & difficult decision making process, I'm incredibly excited to join the Kansas football team."
Weis recruited Crist to Notre Dame and was the coach for the first two seasons Crist was on campus but was fired after the Irish went 6-6 in 2009. Weis was introduced as the Kansas head coach earlier this month.
Crist suffered a knee injury in a game in 2009 but still earned the starting position for 2010. He completed 174-of-294 passes for 2,033 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions that season before another knee injury.
After being named the starter before the 2011 Notre Dame opener, Crist was benched at halftime of the first game and replaced by Tommy Rees.
