Charges against FSU's Greg Reid dropped

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida say after a review of obstruction of justice charges against Florida State University cornerback Greg Reid the charges have been dropped.

State attorney Willie Meggs issued a statement Thursday that the case against Reid was "no information," meaning it would be dropped, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

Meggs said he informed Florida State Coach Jimbo Fisher about the dropped charges.

"I'm very relieved," Fisher said after a practice Wednesday.

The charges had come out of an incident involving a scooter belonging to Reid that had no license plates and was being driven by a friend of Reid's who fled when police tried to pull the scooter over.

Police alleged Reid lied about his friend's identity when questioned and attempted to obstruct their investigation.

Meggs said the Tallahassee Police Department would continue to investigate but would focus on Reid's friend.

"The real person of interest remains the operator of the scooter," Meggs' statement said. "Since the driver has now been identified and is currently being sought by law enforcement, the state is electing to not pursue these charges against Reid any further."
