Minnesota coach returns from seizure

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Minnesota Coach Jerry Kill returned to the sidelines Saturday one week after suffering a seizure and watched his Golden Gophers defeat Miami (Ohio) 29-23.

Kill suffered the seizure late in last weekend's game against New Mexico State, a contest the Gophers lost 28-21. He was released from the hospital late in the week with a full clearance from his doctors and he was on hand to take part in Minnesota's first victory of the year and his first as coach of the team.

MarQueis Gray led Minnesota (1-2) to the victory, throwing for 163 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 171 more yards.

He broke a 16-16 tie early in the fourth period by throwing a 1-yard scoring pass to John Rabe at the end of a 12-play drive.

Gray's performance broke the school record for rushing yards by a quarterback, surpassing Sandy Stephens' 160 yards against Michigan in 1961.

Zac Dysert completed 27-of-47 passes for Miami (0-2) for 325 yards and two touchdowns.
