UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Trent Richardson scored twice and AJ McCarron passed for 163 yards Saturday, hoisting No. 3 Alabama over No. 23 Penn State 27-11.

Richardson ran for 109 yards on 26 carries and McCarron (19-of-31 passing, 165 yards) hurled a 5-yard scoring pass to Michael Williams for the Crimson Tide (2-0), who downed Penn State for the second straight year.

Eddy Lacy picked up 85 rushing yards on 11 carries for the victors.

Matt McGloin started behind center for Penn State (1-1) but was benched after completing just one of his 10 pass attempts. Rob Bolden entered and went 11-of-29 for 144 yards and an interception.

Silas Redd got the Nittany Lions' only touchdown late in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run.
