Texas Longhorns Andrew Jones withdraws from NBA Draft

Texas guard Andrew Jones announced his withdrawal from next month's NBA Draft and will return to the Longhorns for his sophomore season.

Jones participated in the NBA combine and workouts with individual teams but did not hire an agent.

"I've matured and learned a lot through this process," Jones wrote Monday on Twitter, two days before the NCAA's withdrawal deadline for players who have not hired agents. "I enjoyed the experience and opportunity that I had to be able to participate in the (NBA combine) and team workouts."

Jones, who played in 33 games as a freshman as Texas struggled to an 11-22 season, led the Longhorns in assists with 3.5 per game and was third in scoring (11.4 points).

Jones was one of two Longhorns to test the draft, with freshman center Jarrett Allen staying in and he is projected as a lottery selection.

Jones' decision comes days after a five-star 6-foot-11 center Mohamed Bamba committed to the Longhorns last week, giving third-year coach Shaka Smart one of the nation's top recruiting classes.

"Andrew has taken a mature approach to gathering feedback from NBA teams about areas where he can continue to grow," Smart said in a statement. "His work ethic has been terrific, and he is highly motivated to develop and help his team win. Our coaching staff is very excited to help him continue to move forward, on and off the court."
