Baby Shaq to 'Cats: O'Neal wants son to go to Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky., June 9 (UPI) -- He would, literally, be a giant booster for John Calipari's Kentucky basketball program.

NBA Hall of Fame center Shaquille O'Neal wants his son to be a Wildcat, according to 247Sports.

Shareef O'Neal told Sean Scherer that his dominant dad wants him "to lean towards Kentucky."

"He has a good friendship with the coach there," Shareef said. "I know a lot about that school because a lot of kids dream about going there. I like their style of play."

Shareef is listed at 6 foot, 9 inches. He is ranked No. 25 in the class of 2018 by 247Sports. He currently has offers from Arizona, Baylor, California, Kansas State, LSU, UCLA, and USC.

Shaq said on his podcast last week that he wants Shareef to "create his own path." He said his son mentioned Kentucky, Michigan State, or Duke.

ESPN says O'Neal is a four-star recruit, with a rating of 88. The Windward School power forward is ranked at No. 51 in the 2018 ESPN 60.

MaxPreps's statistics show Shareef averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game as a sophomore last season.
