Iowa-Indiana game rescheduled for Thursday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The Big 10 basketball game between No. 15 Iowa and Indiana that was postponed when a piece of the roof fell at Assembly Hall, is to be played next Thursday.

Iowa was to play at Indiana Tuesday but during the afternoon a piece of metal 8 feet long and about 1 foot wide fell on seats. Officials quickly called off the game.

It has been rescheduled for 9 p.m. EST Thursday.

"Both our university and outside consulting engineers have advised us -- and we in turn have advised the Big Ten -- that the remediation of the problems at Assembly Hall will be 100 percent complete by early next week and that Assembly Hall will be safe and ready to host Thursday's men's basketball game without any limitations or restrictions," Indiana Athletic Director Fred Glass said in a statement Friday.

Officials said the weight of snow on the roof of the 42-year-old structure caused the beam to drop from the ceiling.

The schedule change leaves both teams with three games next week. The Hoosiers have three ranked opponents in No. 18 Wisconsin on the road Tuesday, Iowa Thursday and 23rd-ranked Ohio State on Sunday. Iowa will got to Minnesota Tuesday, play at Indiana Thursday and be at home against Purdue on Saturday.
