COL BKB: Syracuse 61, Notre Dame 55

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Trevor Cooney pumped in nine 3-pointers en route to a career-high 33 points Monday, sparking No. 1 Syracuse to a 61-55 victory over Notre Dame.

Cooney finished 11-of-15 from the field and 9-of-12 from long range for the Orange (22-0, 9-0 ACC), who held off the Fighting Irish down the stretch to remain unbeaten and extend the best start in school history.

Notre Dame whittled a 13-point halftime deficit down to three in the closing minutes, but Cooney answered with six points during an 8-1 run to put the contest away.

The Irish (12-11, 3-7) were led by Garrick Sherman with 16 points.

Steve Vasturia added 13.
