SPOKANE, Wash., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Kevin Pangos hit a key layup with 1:27 to play Thursday and No. 21 Gonzaga survived an upset bid with a 59-56 win over San Diego.
Pangos drove through traffic to score the last of his 11 points, giving the Bulldogs a three-point cushion.
Christopher Anderson then attempted a pair of 3-pointers for San Diego, one with 51 seconds to play and another just before the buzzer, but he could not make either of them.
Sam Dower led Gonzaga in scoring with 18 points and Przemek Karnowski had 12. The Bulldogs reached 17-3 for the season and lead the West Coast Conference with a 6-1 record.
Johnny Dee scored 28 points for San Diego (11-10, 2-6 WCC).
